Old Town Prague is amazing.

Spending time in and around Prague is one of my favorite things to do. I have been twice now for a total of 16 days and feel I have only just began to experience what it has to offer. If you are careful the cost to visit this wonderful city can be fairly reasonable compare to other cities you might visit in Europe.

I have spent 16 days in Prague and never felt in danger of crime. I suspect pick pocketing might be an issue but I did not see or hear anything on this. The Prague airport is just outside the city and it is easy to get a taxi ride to your hotel. I suggest you stay in Old Town, there are plenty of hotels there. While it can be tempting to spend your time during the day exploring and then resting at night. You might consider changing that a bit for some days, as Prague has a pretty amazing nightlife.

The beauty and history of Old Town

I have seen websites and videos where people discuss how to see Prague in a day or maybe two days. These are silly and unrealistic. I suppose if all you literally have is 1 or 2 days then you do what you can. However, you should realistcally plany for a 3 day minimum trip. Once you get into town you will quieckly realize that you want more time than you planned for. That is how great the city is. Prague Castle and Cathedral can easily be one day by itself.

You can easily spend your entire trip in Old Town Prague, though I would encourage you to explore beyond just Old Town. Plan to walk every day. While walking you will discover that all, or most roads will lead you to Prague Old Town Square. As you approach Old Town Square the crowds will gradually get bigger. Prague Old Town Square is a natural gathering place for most if not all tourists. From there you can easily access other parts of Old Town like Charles Bridge and Klementinum Library.

Old Town Square can get incredibly busy. There are many tourist attractions like the Astronomical Clock and the Church of Our Lady before Týn and it is close to Charles Bridge. In addion there are many restaurants and outside cafes for eating and drinking while enjoying the view. Be aware these have elevated prices.

If on any day you just want to pick a random direction and start walking you are pretty much guaranteed to find many beautiful and interesting things to see and do. I have not be disappointed yet.
