Pattaya can be whatever you want it to be. Most people seem to have one view of the city and that view is limited. Pattaya can be an all night out of control party or Pattaya can be a quiet day at a cafe looking at the ocean with hardly a person around. Pattaya is what you want it to be.
Central Pattaya is an interesting place. I do not actually spend a lot of time there, though others spend all their time in the area. Central Pattay is the hub of bars, free lance girls, massage parlors and drugs. It is an interesting area that appeals to some and repels others. If you want crazy, this is the area. If you want quiet, Jomtien is for you.
Jomtien is where I live. Miles long beach with condos, hotels and cafes up and down beach road. While it is much quieter than Central Pattay and the Walking Street area, parts of Jomtien can still be very busy, especially on the weekend.
There is an area between Jomtien and Central Pattaya that is a little bit isolated. This area is Pratumnak Hill. Pratumnak Hill is likely the nicest place in Pattaya with nice beaches, hotels and cafes. However, this area is also very busy because of how nice it is.
Wong Amat and Naklua arein the north part of Pattaya. There is a nice beach there and the area is general pretty clean and quiet. It is a lovely place to live or visit. It is close to Central Pattaya and that can be either a good or bad thing depending on your point of view.
East Pattaya is a somewhat popular area for visitors to Thailand. While there are many things to do in East Pattaya it is now near the beaches. Part of the appeal of East Pattaya is that cost to live there is cheaper than in other areas. You can find several golf courses in East Pattaya.

Koh Larn is just off the coast of Pattaya. You can easily see it from either Central Pattaya or from Jomtien. The Bali Hai Pier at the end of Walking Street is where you either catch a ferry or a speed boat to get to Koh Larn. A speed boat will take about 20 minues and a ferry about 40 minutes. Avoid the beach where the ferry drops you off. This is a horribly over crowded and unpleasant area. Take the Baht Bus and go to the other beaches and you will be happy.
Many people come to Thailand and leave unhappy. They spent more money than they expected. Their heart was broken by a Thai girl they were in love with. The extreme heat combined with excess drinking of alcohol caused them to have a medical problem. These are common events in Thailand.
Thailand can however, be an amazing place for you to spend your time. Its all about know what you are getting into and understanding the risks and traps.
The risks and the traps are obvious and clear. The problem is that so many people come here and tell themselve that they are not ever going to fall for them. Sadly this belief helps so many fall into dangerous traps.
Come to Thailand with a good attitude. Come to Thailand and eat right and exercise. If you drink alcohol, then drink very little. If you want a Thai girlfriend or wife, then understand that it is a business transaction and not love. Follow these basic rules and you are well on your way to enjoying one of the best, most stress free lifestyles you can possibly hope for.
I hope this information helps you in your Thailand Travels.
Places I have been and maybe you would enjoy.
There are two islands very close to Pattaya.
Travel Philosphy – While in Thailand I happend to have conversation with a lady at a beach cafe on two different days. These little chats were eye opening to me. We traded mostly travel stories. Eventually I noticed that her stories always involved many more places and activities than mine.
On the second day, I told her that the week I spent in Prague was amazing and that I wanted to return for a much longer stay and explore the city and country further. I told her that I was considering a month or longer. This seemed to really confused her. She asked me “Why would you want to go back to a place you have already travelled to?”.
Now it was my turn to be confused. I thought the answer was obvious. I told her “Because there was so much more to see and do and I want to spend time in a place that I enjoy so very much.” It was her opinion that I should go to new countries and not ones I had already visited.
After our chat was finished, I realized that this woman had every day of her trips filled with as many activities as possible and that she was jumping around the world from one place to the next at a very quick pace, never spending too long anywhere. It was almost as if she need to check things off a list as quickly as possible.
I prefer to find a few places I like and spend more time in those places.
The importance of travelling either alone or with the right person – She and I would never be successful traveling together. Her rush to go to as many places as possible and have as many experiences as possible would clash with my desire to go slow and enjoy things longer. If you are going to travel with someone, it seems to me that you need to be very careful in picking who that person is, otherwise you may end up trapped in a very unpleasant trip,
Life in Thailand is pretty great. If you want a quiet, relaxed very affordable life at the beach than this is a great place to be.
